Editing formulas

Your options for editing formulas depend on whether you have just entered and verified a new formula entry using the Check button or whether you are editing an existing entry.

For new entries

If you use the Check button to verify a formula entry and find that one or more characters have been recognized incorrectly, you can use either of the following techniques to request an alternate recognition result:

For a single character, simply tap the character.

For a string of characters, first select the characters by circling or "lassoing" them and then tap the selection to request an alternate result for that group of characters.

You can continue tapping a character or selection if the first alternate result is not what you intended.

For any entry

Any of the techniques described in Editing cell contents can be used to modify newly-entered or existing formulas.

Any additions you make to formulas must produce a valid result. For example, you can add an exponent, division, or square root to an existing formula as long as the resulting formula would be valid in Excel. You can also add to the end of an existing formula.

In certain cases, you can drag a character or selection to any appropriate location. For example, if you enter "B23" and it is recognized as "B23". you can drag the "3" upward into the exponent  position to get the correct result. It is not necessary to select the "3" first.
