Pen input and editing

MoboCalc makes it easy to use Excel with a pen rather than a keyboard. In fact, you may find that it's even easier.

Entering cell values

You use the MoboCalc input panel instead of the Excel formula bar to enter and display cell contents. To enter a value or formula for a cell, just write it in the input panel. The rules are the same for handwritten entries as for ones you type — formulas start with an equal sign, and other entries don't.

But there's an important difference. With MoboCalc, you can write and display formulas the same way you learned them in school, using division lines, square root signs, exponents, and other special symbols. This isn't a requirement, but it makes your formulas a lot easier to enter and understand.

For example, you can write:

Sample Handwritten Formula

instead of the Excel formula:

=SQRT((c8^2+c9^2)/2)

You can verify your entry before sending it to Excel by tapping the Check button

Sample Formatted Formula with Callouts

To save your entry and move to the next cell, tap Enter or one of the navigation buttons. The next time you return to this cell. your formula will be displayed in exactly the same way.

See the following topics for more information on entering text, numbers, dates, and formulas.

Editing cell values

It's easy to edit existing text, values, and formulas as well. You can make handwritten additions to existing entries, change a character by writing a new one on top of it, and use special gestures to select and delete text and perform other operations. You can use the eraser tool (or the eraser tip of your pen) to remove ink before it's converted to text or erase characters in existing entries. And if you preview your entries with the Check button, you can request alternate results for part of an entry by tapping on it. For more information on editing see the following help section.
