Command gestures

Top  Previous  Next

Gestures are pen strokes that represent instructions to MoboMath rather than data for recognition. Once you are familiar with them, they are the most convenient way to control the system.

There are two general classes of gestures:

MoboMath commands, like Undo
Editing operations on mathematical expressions, such as "move this character"

This section covers command gestures. See the following Editing expressions topic for information on the editing gestures.

Gestures are recognized automatically. When you enter one, MoboMath acts on it immediately, although there may be a slight pause while it works. If you enter a gesture and nothing happens, use Undo to erase the stroke and try again.

These are the available command gestures, which correspond to the four buttons in the MoboMath toolbar.

An arrow indicates the direction in which to draw the gesture. The undo and redo gestures retrace themselves as indicated by the gray arrows.

NOTE: Write these gestures away from other text or ink on the display. Otherwise, they may be interpreted as part of an existing expression.

Here is a sequence which allows you to practice all of these.

1. Write a character on the display
2. Use the enter gesture to recognize it
3. Use the undo gesture to get back to ink
4. Use the redo gesture to get back to text
5. Use the clear gesture to erase the display

If MoboMath doesn't respond to a gesture, use the Undo button to erase it and try again. With a bit of practice, MoboMath should recognize your gestures every time.
