The Character dialog allows you to disable characters that you infrequently use. By disabling characters, you can improve recognition speed and accuracy by decreasing the number of choices MoboMath will consider when interpreting your writing. For example, the Greek character nu is easily confused with v. If you never use nu, you can disable it and eliminate the possibility that a v will be misrecognized as nu.
We strongly encourage you to disable characters you don't use. Even if you use a character only occasionally, it may be best to disable it for normal use and reenable it when you need it. See the Recommended character configuration topic for specific suggestions.
The Configuration wizard in the Grammar menu provides a quick way to review and enable or disable several common classes of characters and expressions. Once you have run the wizard, you can fine tune your choices using the Character dialog.
The Character dialog also shows you the limits of what MoboMath can recognize. If a character is not listed in the Character dialog, MoboMath will not recognize it (although in some cases you can import and edit expressions containing the character). Let us know if you need other special characters or symbols so we can consider including them in a future version of MoboMath.
The character window displays all available characters organized into several tabs for lower case, upper case, Greek, and special characters. Tap on a character to change its state – from disabled to enabled or vice versa. Characters shown in red are disabled.
You can try this for yourself. Write and recognize a character. Then open the Character dialog and disable that character. If you undo the recognition (undo does not apply to configuration changes, such as disabling a character) and then tap the Enter button to recognize the character again, you will see a different result for the same input. The character you disabled will not be considered. When you are done, don't forget to enable the character again.
To open the Character dialog, choose "Character set" from the Grammar menu.
