Deleting

Top  Previous  Next

You may wish to clear an entire page, delete one region among several, or just delete part of an expression.

The easiest way to clear the entire page is by tapping the Clear Page button or using the clear page gesture.

There are two gestures you can use to delete subexpressions or whole regions. The x-out gesture is the simplest:

delete1

arrow6

delete3

You can also use a scratch out gesture, but be careful to scratch enough to distinguish it from summation:

delete2

arrow6

delete4

These gestures delete all the characters under the gesture. If you are deleting several characters, it is often easiest to select them first. In this case, the entire selection will be deleted if the gesture covers at least one selected character.

These gestures take effect automatically. If the ink remains on the screen, or if your deletion doesn't cover exactly the piece you intend, tap undo and then try again a little more carefully.

If you want to overwrite to replace something with the character "x", your action can be mistaken for a deletion. It may be easier to write the "x" somewhere else, recognize it, and drag it onto the target. Otherwise, pause briefly between writing each stroke of the x.

The context menu and the Edit menu also allow you to clear a page, region, selection, or ink strokes that have not yet been processed.
